What is Revue?
Revue is a vibrant and dynamic performance art form that combines various musical numbers into a medley, typically lasting around 15 minutes. These performances are brought to life by schools, where students engage in both singing and dancing. Each school has the creative freedom to choose a unique theme for their performance. Once a theme is selected, the students dress in costumes that align with it, enhancing the visual appeal of their act.
The process involves selecting a series of songs that complement the chosen theme, creating a cohesive and entertaining presentation. This thematic approach allows students to explore different musical genres and styles, bringing their chosen narrative to life through their performance. The preparation for a revue involves rigorous practice and coordination, as students work together to perfect their singing, dancing, and overall stage presence.
Revue not only showcases the artistic talents of the students but also fosters a sense of teamwork and creativity. It is a celebration of music, dance, and storytelling, where each school’s performance is a unique expression of their collective imagination and effort.

THE COMPETITION
8 Beats has been held in various large theaters, and this year it will be at the Gold Reef City Lyric Theatre, which has many more seats to accommodate parents and ensure that every parent can support their child and school.
Each school receives a 30-minute rehearsal time during the competition day to get familiar with the stage before the evening’s performance.
